We are currently seeking two trainees, one Technical Trainee and one Digital Trainee.
Technical Trainee BW LNG
In order to support our vision to be Best on Water, BW is looking for a highly motivated trainee that can assist in developing our technical operation together with our world-class technical gas team. We are seeking a trainee with a marine technical background and with the mindset of tomorrow who will influence efficiency and the way we work. Our trainee has profound knowledge and a passion for marine technical solutions and together with a team will influence our work processes with emerging technologies. Upon successful completion of the trainee period, there are potential opportunities for assignments within one of the technical segments in the BW Group, depending on the candidate’s preference and the organisation’s needs.
Our trainee will be a part of one of the leading management programs in Norway, Maritime Trainee, which is organized for the industry by the Norwegian Shipowner’s Association (Rederiforbundet). The program lasts for 18 months and combines working in a world leading maritime company with an academic program with five modules planned to take place in Norway, Singapore, Copenhagen and London. This program gives you an outstanding way to start your career. In BW, the trainee will spend time across various departments and get exposed to commercial, financial, legal and technical challenges. There is potential for spending parts of the trainee period in Singapore and to join one of our LNG carriers for a shorter sailing period. The trainee rotations are built up around our projects at the time. It gives us the possibility to customize the rotations to give our trainee the most valuable experiences from different parts of our projects and organization.
Possible experiences and responsibilities:
- Gain hands-on experience into day-today ship operations and understand problem-solving challenges by briefly sailing aboard our vessels.
- Support Technical Superintendents to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the fleet.
- Engage with our Newbuild department and gain insights into our ship ordering process. Contribute to the exploration of cutting-edge technologies for the advancement of our future vessel generations.
- Join our projects team who are dedicated to developing new initiatives and enhancing ongoing projects. Contribute by identifying innovative technical solutions for potential ventures and actively participate in the execution of our ongoing projects.
- Join our on-site team in South Korea where we’re constructing new ships. Gain hands-on experience and understanding of the operations of a newbuild shipyard by witnessing shipbuilding process firsthand.
- Collaborate with our commercial team to grasp the dynamics of the LNG and FSRU business. Participate in the team’s efforts on new tenders and contracts to gain insights into essential aspects of our operations.
Qualifications:
The right candidate may have a background from the following marine disciplines:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Marine Automation or other shipping related studies or in combination with Information Technology & Informatics, Marine Cybernetics or equivalent.
- Great interest in the development of technical solutions.
- Sailing experience with relevant STCW certificates is an advantage.
- Excellent command of English.

- Proactive with a strong personal drive.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-going.
- Have a holistic perspective, without losing attention to details.
- Good data analytical skills.

Digital Trainee

We are seeking a trainee with technology background, the mindset of tomorrow and who would like to influence the efficiency of our operation and the way we work. Our trainee has a passion for digital and smart solutions and will work closely with our digital team and business users to deliver on our customers’ expectations, improve operational performance and drive our progress towards a low carbon society.
Our trainee will be a part of one of the leading management programs in Norway, Maritime Trainee, which is organized for leading players in the maritime industry by the Norwegian Shipowner’s Association (Rederiforbundet). Possible responsibilities:
- Explore opportunities for automating repetitive tasks both on shore and onboard our vessels
- Align and simplify processes across the organization through digital solutions and building enhanced user interfaces
- Support business users on data analytics and in turning data into actionable insight, for instance through use of Power BI and Python
- Leverage our organization’s operational and technical expertise in combination with our IoT-data and machine learning to help optimize our operation and reduce emissions
- Explore and test the viability of emerging technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality
- Participate in innovation projects exploring the solutions for tomorrow
Qualifications:
The right candidate may have:
- MSc in Engineering or equivalent (e.g. Marine Technology, Industrial Economics, Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics) with relevant studies covering information technology, informatics, cybernetics or equivalent
- Background from or general interest in marine technology may be an advantage
- Excellent command of English
- Programming skills
